Disgraced former priest Ramón is finally released from prison. But instead of feeling guilt and remorse he is bent on revenge against those who testified against him. Most are easy to find but there is one last piece missing in his puzzle: Andrea has moved to Edinburgh.

As Andrea slowly realises her past has terrifyingly become her present, David Hidalgo finds himself in the middle of a problem he wasn't looking for once again. Can he halt Ramón's revenge or will there be further casualties?

Sins of the Fathers launched on 18th Oct 2019

“In David Hidalgo, Les Cowan has a unique take on the crime busting religious protagonist and in Sins of the Fathers he has crafted a clever, twisted game of cat and mouse – where you’re never quite sure who is the cat and who is the mouse.”

Gordon Brown, author of Darkest Thoughts

A dark insight into a dangerous and wounded soul. This is crime fiction with a spiritual twist

Fiona Veitch Smith, Author of The Cairo Brief

Gripping and gruesome … an exciting cat and mouse game … a convincing tale with clear insight into the mind of a clever but deranged person … a read page-turner … an impressive read

Shetland Times

… strongly recommended to all crime thriller fans … very easy to get into and follow.

Bookread2day

Cowan spins an engrossing, suspenseful yarn in which spiritual themes are noticeably more prominent than in a regular thriller.

Very nice coverage from the The Press and Journal (circa. almost 40,000).

Author interview, two extracts and this great review.

Thanks Stuart - you really get it!

The drama of this book is not in not knowing who the killer is, but in knowing the hidden threat before the main characters even do, and watching them in a race against time to try and save someone's life. This is a good reversal and it's nice for the reader to be 'in the know' for once! The mystery and suspense is in the how and why of the adventure. Of course, we all want to have a happy ending where everyone continues their life and hopefully will all live happily ever after with justice having been done, but life doesn't work like that, but will this novel work out that way? You'll have to read it to find out, but I can guarantee that you will enjoy the journey!

I enjoyed this book and Cowan’s previous stories because his plots are credible and his characters are real people. Hidalgo’s faith is also real and expressed in challenging situations … Enjoy a good read.

Premier Christianity Magazine

I like the way the author gives an account from the perspective of both the criminal and the detective protagonist. He lays bare the workings of institutionalised exploitation and of individual psychopathy with truly shocking objective descriptions and convincing forensic psychology. The warm and cheering Edinburgh milieu of David Hidalgo persists with extra rehabilitated characters from past detective ventures and David himself is, as usual, leaving his nearest and dearest in awesome exasperation at the lengths he is impelled to go to fulfil the spiritual aspect of his mission.

BBC Radio Orkney were kind enough to do an interview around the launch of Sins of the Fathers. Here’s Les in the studio with Snr Producer Dave Gray.

Nice review from the Peterborough Telegraph - one star less than Lee Child but one more that The Mummy! Tense and twisty they say.

Is this the big time?

Opening extract from Sins of the Fathers published in The Scotsman (the Edinburgh quality paper) Saturday magazine on Sat 2nd Nov. Showcases the talents of the “the nation’s best writers” it says. You be the judge…
